Mary Virginia Swanson is an author, educator and advisor to artists and arts organizations whose career includes exhibiting, collecting and licensing photography. In 2013, Swanson received the Focus Award for Lifetime Achievement in Photography from the Griffin Museum in Boston. Swanson’s publications, articles, and blog are invaluable resources for photographers that can be found at www.mvswanson.com

The publishing industry is undergoing extraordinary changes. The print-on-demand revolution has opened up new possibilities, and it has never been easier, or more affordable, to produce a book of ones own photographs. The traditional publishing path has the advantage of a highly specialized team who brings their expertise in design, production, marketing and distribution systems. With self-publishing, you can create exactly the book you envision, but without the support of professionals at a publishing house.

Mary Virginia Swanson will discuss both avenues to publishing, and help participants determine the pros/cons for their unique needs. Swanson will share resources from Publish Your Photography Book, which she coauthored with Darius Himes, and which has recently been updated and expanded.
